Few people know that Vietnam ranks second in coffee exports in the world and first in exports of Robusta. And even fewer people know that Robusta is several times richer in caffeine than Arabica. That is why there is no better coffee in the world for a morning cup. No hint of elegance, only pure bright stubborn cheerfulness.
But the most amazing thing happens with this coffee, if you add condensed milk to it, as millions of Vietnamese rom the Mekong to Sapa do every morning. Coffee becomes softer, when a new taste is revealed, but still gives the mighty vivacity.
After fifty years of drinking and loving arabicas, I tried this simple robusta. It's what I was looking for: mellow, unique hint of chocolate and spice with no acidity, and strong enough to wake me up with no need for a second cup. I use a press pot, no milk, and a little sugar.
